Channel 803

I bounce around between projects a lot, currently I’m working on a social network (channel 803), an android app (poppingsui), a game library (GeroSoup) and a few other smaller projects, however as of late I’ve been focused on making a social network.

originally, this blog post went over each social network and the problems I had with them (and some solutions) but I felt that it was too long, so here’s the TLDR version

Problems

  1. If you’re not paying for it you’re the product
  2. Organizing People and Events
  3. Doing too much or too little
  4. No one uses it

The first problem is somewhat easy to fix, you can charge like app.net or let people run their own instances ala Diaspora.

The second problem I think meetup.com does well for events and Google Plus does well for people, I just need to combine those and a few things ( like event directions and such).

The third problem is really more of a preference, for some twitter is just what they need for others it doesn’t do enough or is too limiting, I just want to be able to talk with friends, organize events and keep track of old events and play some games together.

The fourth and last problem is the hardest to solve and I haven’t quite figured out how to solve it yet but for now James is keeping me company on the test server (thanks james!) and thats all I need for now.

Goodnight :-)

I have a problem

well, I have a few, but the one I’m talking about today is the problem of content,

I would like to blog every few days with a new, interesting post about something, but I end up forgetting, or putting it off, or thinking my post isn’t good enough but does it really matter? no one reads this anyway and it’s good practice, I don’t expect myself to pick up a saxophone and play something amazing, it takes practice and time but blogging is scary, I can practice playing saxophone in my room, alone but I can’t blog privately to myself (well I can but that’s more of a diary than a blog), so here’s my solution,

to everyone reading this and my blog in the future, this is practice, my writing isn’t going to be great at first, nor will my grammer be correct, but I’m doing it, I’m practicing, and I’m going to get better

Day 8, HEYO!

I’ve added a bunch of stuff over the last two days, here’s a quick list of everything that I remember at the moment.

  1. press B to enter build mode, N to exit
  2. Build mode has been modified, there are still some modifications to do but I think it’s much improved
  3. different textures for different blocks, using addBlock, you can now specify a Texture e,g, addBlock(10,10,10,25,25,25,’grass1’);
  4. Piezo point system, I’ll explain this in another post
  5. Piezo Entity, gives you 200 piezo
  6. OpenPiezoStorageUnit Entity, holds 1000 Piezo
  7. E is now the use button, soon you will have to press it to pickup items
  8. basic basic basic lighting, sorta,

the game currently does NOT work offline, this will be fixed soon

Day 8

notes to myself

piezo counts are not saved and are client side, save them and move them to the server, they need to be secure

add some of the radar functions to the normal game (they’re in my script tab)

add a synced notepad for everyone ( like the script tab but without the eval, synced across guilds/clans/teams/units)

Edit: forgot the link, >_<”

Day 6 (or somethin)

there’s still a lot of work to do, tomorrow I plan on working on stairs, building limits and a better building system (right now you press e a bunch of times)

Cheers and goodnight!

Day 6

0 Notes

not really in the mood to blog but..

I haven’t been posting so here’s a quick update

Day 5

Items now works across clients to a certain extent, I have to figure out how to get the callbacks to work

also in the midst of updating I accidentally delete the index of pinguinogelato and can’t find my backup, yay! so tomorrow I’ll start working on a redesign, perhaps something fancy with canvas

Day 3

Hello Everyone! (haha no one actually reads this, but lets just pretend :-) )

I didn’t get much work done today, I re-did the chat parser so I can easily add new functions, added a basic console / terminal, added the ability to change your player model (still needs work), and added a new model loading function, huzzzah!

the same thing in easy list format

  1. Expandable Chat Parser function
  2. Basic Console / Terminal
  3. swappable player models (currently only 2 , basicPlayerHat and drone)
  4. model loading function ( setModel(model,callback); )

cheers

edit: and I added a house but it doesn’t do anything yet…
